Welcome Summer

Hello Friends! We have been lucky enough to greet summer lately, and appreciate the rays of sunshine we went so long without through this long Albertan winter. Although I really prefer the cold months, this year, Winter seemed to drag it's feet and I wanted to be able to eat icecream again without being "crazy" for enjoying it while snow was still on the ground. After a few surprise snow storms during what should have been spring....
(Brrrrr....)
Summer has finally arrived, and Erik and I have been taking full advantage by making summery eats and drinks! On Sunday evening, we decided to be a bit creative, and decided on a chocolate fondue for dessert. Erik melted the chocolate while I cut up all the fruit, (we used pears, nectarines, bananas, apples, and strawberries). He at first melted one bag of chocolate chips, and decided to go all out and add the second one, which was for sure waaaaay too much chocolate, but I don't think we really minded. It was nice to sit together and enjoy eating it after making it together, and although the chocolate completely counteracts the health that fruit may provide, it was very tasty!
Yesterday, while it thunderstormed outside, we decided to make Margarita's at home in our Magic Bullet, (Which I highly recommend!!) They were absolutely tasty, but we used Vodka instead of Rum, which I think I prefer.
This evening, upon our roomates return from the field, the original plan was to go to Dairy Queen. I've really been wanting to get into shape (I almost wrote back into shape, but I never really was so back can't be used accurately haha), and be a bit healthier again (I was previously doing weight watchers). Upon moving in with my boyfriend at the start of this month, I brought with me my WW scale. Apparently while I was gone, both of them were weighing themselves, and Erik wasn't impressed with what he saw, so very quickly he informed me that we were no longer having dairy queen, but rather going to the grocery store to get some ingredients to eat healthy food, as long as I cooked. No worries there haha. I decided spur of the moment to make a chunky Greek Salad, with Naan bread as the carb on the side. We both enjoyed it and I gave Erik a little lesson in healthy food by mentioning to him that a sign of healthy food is COLOUR! Haha small steps people, small steps.
Hope all is well in everyone's corner of the universe. xox Kyra

May Glossy Box Review

While I was scouring the internet the one day I found the concept of subscription boxes. Where you pay anywhere from $10+ a month to recieve a box filled with samples. Subscription boxes do vary, some geared towards mothers, some geared to the eco-concious etc. I was right away attracted to the idea of deluxe makeup/cosmetic boxes because I cannot explain how many times I have bought a fulled sized product and not enjoyed it and it sits there un-used. So last month, I signed up for the glossybox, and glymm boxes and I recieved my glossybox for May! Glossybox is $15 dollars a month with shipping included and they send you 5 luxury samples a month. http://www.glossybox.ca/ Glymm box which I have yet to recieve, is $12 dollars a month shipping included and you recieve 4-5 deluxe samples. For both companies you fill in a short beauty profile so they can get an idea of the sorts of samples you'd be interested in recieving, your skin type (oily etc) and eye and hair colours to match product colours. I read as many box openings and reviews on these subscription box companies so I could make the best most informed decision on which boxes I'd like to purchase each month. When I recieved my first Glossybox, I was not dissapointed! First off, the quality of the packing and the visual is so nice when opening it. It's a sturdy box to minimalize breaking of the contents inside and it just looks so pretty! Plus the minature shoe-box-ish box it comes in is the perfect size for mailing packages and can be reused in so many ways! I opened it up and I was really pleased with all the products inside of my box. Inside I got Curel Foot cream to help with dry cracked feet, says you can notice a difference in only 2 days. I haven't used it yet, but once I do I will let you know if it's as effective as it says to be. Simple Eye makeup remover which removes even waterproof makeup, which is good for me because I rub my eyes at night and look like a psycho racoon. I have tried it and I have actually been blown away with the results. I was skeptical but its actually 100% scent free and extremely mild so you feel safe using it around your eyes, and you only need the tiniest bit and it's removed my eyeliner and mascara perfectly. It's like a magic eraser for all your eye makeup. I normally don't wear waterproof makeup, but I have tried it on waterproof eyeliner and it worked wonderfully as well, (and it was an eyeliner I tested on my hand in the store that wouldn't come off even after scrubbing my hand!) Simple Facial Wash Gel which is nice because its hypoallergenic and no ingredients come from animals, and I’m inbetween face washes, want to find one I really like. It's not the best I've ever tried, I don't like gel based facewashes, but I'm sure it would work great for someone with really sensitive skin. Full sized Pandora’s lipstick. I got a sparkly deeper muted red. First off, it's a FULL SIZED lipstick, I can get a million uses out of this, and I tried it, and I actually really liked it! It was less colour and more of a shimmer, that complimented my natural lip colour and completely fit with my tones and colouring which I find impressive from a company that's just read my questionaire, not actually seen me!! I really like this lipstick. Then a full sized bottle of Sebastian salon quality shampoo. I have the shampoo I like and want to keep, so I won’t be trying this one, but it would be nice to include in someone’s gift. Who doesn’t want a full sized salon quality shampoo? (Besides me haha.) There you have it! All in all I am extremely pleased, I recieved $56 dollars worth of product for $15 dollars and I will/have used all the products besides 1. I have yet to get my glossy box for June, as well as the Glymm box! Woo hoo!! (:
